What constitutes reality, is it the everyday and the ordinary, or is it the unusual and random extraordinary event?

Human beings tend to believe that reality is made up of a mixture of irremediable destiny and chance circumstances that shape their existence and their future, when in truth it is nothing more than the personal interpretation that each person makes of events.

Unfortunately, many do not fully understand that each of us is the builder of our own existence and destiny, making it day by day, step by step, shaping every hour and every minute of our own existence and our own narrative.

It is true that current systems of life push us into an unbridled race of coexistence in which uniformity, the absence of critical thought and individualism are imposed on us as a universal model, but I have always been an advocate of the idea that human beings need to become eccentric, capable of breaking out of this spiral and alienating uniformity, capable of establishing new individual and collective narratives that are more enriching and more compatible with life and nature.

The «Déviation» series by Blandine Soulage (1980, Grenoble, lives and works in Lyon, France) offers us precisely a way out of the uniform spaces that are imposed on us, a poetic detour that allows us a different interpretation of reality that is certainly acceptable and perfectly achievable.

Her images are an attack on normality, a subversion of the everyday usual and correct, an offer to our rationality to confront the restrictions of our daily lives, to challenge the limits and constraints that restrict and condition us, a kind of dance in which we move from the ordinary to the extraordinary and vice versa.

«My photographic work explores the movements and postures of the human body, focusing on both its narrative potential and its abstract qualities. In my images I propose to viewers to rethink the way we inhabit and interact with the common environment, so that the figures – by challenging ordinary postures – create new dynamics that confront our understanding of balance and gravity and invite viewers to project their own narratives».- Blandine Soulage
