Siempre me he inclinado por entender la fotografía como expresión del pensamiento, en tanto palabra de una forma de lenguaje propiamente artístico y siempre he creído en la capacidad de la fotografía para la ficción, el relato, la narración, el misterio, el secreto y la alegoría.
La fotografía no es la realidad, es su representación y, por ello, siempre he sostenido su disponibilidad para ofrecernos estructuras semánticas sensibles ocultas en la propia imagen que no nos presentan el mundo real tal y como es, sino que nos proponen un paseo por la frontera que media entre la vigilia y el sueño, entre las luces y las sombras, entre la opacidad y la transparencia.
Para Brooke Shaden (1987, Lancaster, Pensilvania, USA) la fotografía es un ejercicio de simulación en el que lo real tiende a difuminarse y desdibujarse hasta provocar su eclipse, dando entonces nacimiento y protagonismo a lo imaginario, a un modelo suplantador de la realidad cuya integración en el mundo se llevará a cabo a través del vértigo de un eco reiterativo insertado en la cultura, para, de este modo, instaurar y legitimar la confusión entre lo real y lo irreal.
Al representar lo irreal, su fotografía no sólo está en condiciones de ofrecer a nuestra mirada equivalentes de imágenes mentales sino que, también, se pone en disposición de brindarnos equivalentes culturales a modo de fragmentos de un imaginario colectivo.
En sus imágenes y gracias al estatuto fotográfico, los recuerdos individuales y la memoria colectiva se trasiegan entre clichés y dígitos y, en ese trasvase, las formas se vuelven semejantes, lo ficticio suplanta a lo real y la representación se ve sumida en la larga sombra del eclipse.
Paisajes y seres fabulosos viven y existen dentro de la sombra a modo de efigies de un mundo paralelo. En el eclipse y entre sus sombras todo se tornará ambiguo y huidizo, no existirá ni el tiempo ni el espacio, todo será una ilusión y a la luz del eclipse el mundo se convertirá en la página de un cuento en donde todo es posible.

I have always been inclined to understand photography as an expression of thought, as the word of a form of artistic language, and I have always believed in photography’s capacity for fiction, storytelling, narration, mystery, secrecy and allegory.
Photography is not reality, it is its representation, and for this reason I have always maintained its ability to offer us sensitive semantic structures hidden in the image itself that do not present the real world as it is, but rather propose a walk on the border between waking and dreaming, between light and shadow, between opacity and transparency.
For Brooke Shaden (1987, Lancaster, Pensilvania, USA), photography is an exercise in simulation in which the real tends to blur until it is eclipsed, thus giving birth and prominence to the imaginary, to a model that supplants reality, whose integration into the world will take place through the vertigo of a reiterative echo inserted into culture, in order to, in this way, establish and legitimise the confusion between the real and the unreal.
By representing the unreal, his photography is not only able to offer our gaze equivalents of mental images, but also to offer us cultural equivalents in the form of fragments of a collective imaginary.
In his images and thanks to their photographic statute, individual memories and collective memory are transferred between clichés and digits and, in this transfer, forms become similar, the fictitious supplants the real and representation is plunged into the long shadow of eclipse.
Fabulous landscapes and beings live and exist within the shadow as effigies of a parallel world. In the eclipse and in its shadows everything will become ambiguous and elusive, neither time nor space will exist, everything will be an illusion and in the light of the eclipse the world will become the page of a fairy tale where everything is possible.
