Vivimos en una época de transformaciones y mutaciones, tanto en lo individual como en lo colectivo que se han intensificado sobremanera con la pandemia mundial. Es una época dominada por las leyes del mercado, por los índices de audiencia y por un individualismo feroz que nos alejan progresiva y peligrosamente de nuestra relación con la naturaleza y el medioambiente.

La percepción del mundo, de nuestro entorno, de los demás o de nosotros mismos resulta, cada vez más, algo complejo y contradictorio. Hay quien cree que todo es lineal, evidente, y que el mundo se manifiesta tal y como es, pero, para algunos otros, es a través de la negación de la evidencia como puede constatarse más profundamente la realidad.

La fotografía ha servido a lo largo de toda su historia tanto para constatar lo cierto como lo irreal, y en esa tarea nos ha permitido acercarnos al conocimiento de nosotros mismos para poner de manifiesto todas nuestras virtudes y defectos, todos nuestros sueños y quimeras, todas nuestras ilusiones y pesadillas.

Es incuestionable que el clima del planeta sufre por las consecuencias del alejamiento de nuestra relación con la naturaleza y por pensar que todo ha de estar al servicio del beneficio del ser humano, sin caer en la cuenta de que el proteger y cuidar a la naturaleza es el mayor beneficio que podemos darle a nuestro futuro.

Christophe Jacrot (1960, Francia) se sintió atraído por la magia y el misterio que el clima brinda en épocas de frío y lluvia. No se interesa por las manifestaciones extremas y catastróficas que el propio clima puede darnos, sino más bien por la quietud silenciosa y la fugaz armonía que se pueden sentir en un día de nieve o lluvia.

En sus imágenes el tiempo vital se ralentiza, el espacio se cubre de un manto blanco, el frío se hace palpable y todo ello parece invitarnos al refugio, a la calma, al calor y a la seguridad. Es como si el ser humano recobrará la lucidez y se apartara del vértigo cotidiano en el que hemos convertido nuestra existencia, como si se diera cuenta de que solo podremos existir en concordia con la naturaleza y nuestro entorno.

Por una parte, un fotógrafo puede centrarse en los horrores del mundo, o puede quitarle el miedo a él.- Christophe Jacrot.

We live in a time of transformations and mutations, both individual and collective, which have been intensified by the global pandemic. It is an age dominated by the laws of the market, by ratings and by a fierce individualism that is gradually and dangerously distancing us from our relationship with nature and the environment.

Our perception of the world, of our surroundings, of others and of ourselves is becoming increasingly complex and contradictory. Some people believe that everything is linear, self-evident, and that the world manifests itself as it is. For some others, it is through the denial of evidence that reality can be more profoundly ascertained.

Throughout its history, photography has served both to ascertain the true and the unreal, and in this task it has allowed us to get to know ourselves better, to reveal all our virtues and defects, all our dreams and chimeras, all our illusions and nightmares.

It is unquestionable that the planet’s climate is suffering from the consequences of our distancing ourselves from our relationship with nature and from thinking that everything has to be at the service of human benefit, without realising that protecting and caring for nature is the greatest benefit we can give to our future.

Christophe Jacrot (1960, France) was attracted by the magic and mystery of the weather in cold and rainy weather. He is not interested in the extreme and catastrophic manifestations that the weather itself can give us, but rather in the quiet stillness and fleeting harmony that can be felt on a snowy or rainy day.

In his images, vital time slows down, the space is covered with a white mantle, the cold becomes palpable and all of this seems to invite us to refuge, calm, warmth and security. It is as if the human being recovers his lucidity and moves away from the daily vertigo into which we have turned our existence, as if he realises that we can only exist in harmony with nature and our environment.
