The year is ending like a long and tiring sunset and we still have a long way to go to eradicate wars, violence and inequality from our lives and to try to restore our battered environment and climate.
I said last year that with the dawn of a new year, promises of change and improvement are renewed, but we soon forget that they always depend on our attitude, our behaviour, our hopes and dreams, our willpower, our goals and our yearnings.
I also said that it would be naïve to believe that we can stop war or the destruction of nature simply because we do not agree with one or the other, and I also commented that it would be ingenuous not to be convinced that only through an individual attitude and collective behaviour would all this unreason begin to cease to exist.
For many years I have been spreading photographic culture as a way of critical, aesthetic and reflective thinking. It has always been and will always be my way of contributing to promote those changes and improvements in search of the progress of any human being.
I have never hidden my proposal to show the extraordinary work of women and men photographers by relating it to my comments and meditations of a social and cultural nature, trying to provoke -thereby- a transversal reading of the works and perhaps an unusual and differentiating profile or angle.
In January of next year 2025 adfphoto and myself -as the only person responsible for it- will be twenty years since we began this journey and, to tell the truth, although I have been tempted many times to end it, I have always felt comforted not to do so when I have found among my searches and enquiries a photograph or a photographic series that has managed to take my mind off the exhaustion and effort involved in maintaining this blog, awakening -again- in me the attachment and passion I feel for photographic culture.
I hope and wish that this Christmas you will be very happy with your loved ones, and I also hope and wish that the New Year will be a year in which we find the path to peace, harmony and, above all, to enjoy health and individual and collective wellbeing.
¡¡ Merry Christmas and Happy New Year !!
