Naturaleza, paisaje, territorio, arte, fotografía… A lo largo de la historia estas nociones han tenido significados distintos y variados, incluso polémicos y controvertidos. El paisaje habría surgido cuando el hombre se detuvo a mirar la belleza, la estética de la naturaleza. Hoy puede decirse que trata de encontrarlo allí donde puede, incluso en el más oculto rincón de cualquiera de sus propias ciudades.
El territorio habría aparecido en el momento en que el hombre tomó la decisión de ordenar el caos aparente de la naturaleza y de someter las leyes de aquella a sus propias leyes. Tal vez muy pronto no le quede espacio ya que ordenar.
El arte habría nacido en el instante que el hombre se dio cuenta de que podía imaginar y construir un gran relato del mundo y, finalmente, la fotografía habría llegado la última para sustituir ese gran relato por pequeñas narraciones individuales, pequeñas porciones del mundo que acaso nos permitan entender mejor la finalidad de nuestra propia existencia.
La fotografía actual nos ofrece un escenario enorme y amplio de nuevas significaciones que no alcanzamos a ver con claridad, pero, a veces, debemos de saber encontrar aquellas que nos cuestionan a nosotros mismos.
La serie Topografías de la Fragilidad de Ingrid Weyland (1969, Buenos Aires, Argentina) nos traslada al mismo corazón de la experiencia para establecer nuevos mundos, nuevos universos en los que la imagen definitivamente se alía con lo indefinible y lo intraducible.
Desde una perspectiva meramente formal sus imágenes nos enfrentan a la cuestión de lo visible pero lo esencial de su planteamiento no se ubica ahí, sino en el estricto ámbito del significado pues, esencialmente, nos quiere hacer comprender que la existencia misma de la naturaleza anida en el seno de nuestra alma, como un fenómeno consustancial a la propia condición humana.
La mirada individual es una percepción, ante todo, visual del mundo. La mirada del artista es una percepción no sólo del mundo sino, también, de sus apariencias. La cuestión que nos propone Ingrid Weyland no se plantea en cuanto retorno a la naturaleza para recrearla o reinterpretarla. Se trata de volvernos hacia ella para reencontrarla y – en consecuencia – para reencontrarnos a nosotros mismos.
En la serie altero y realizo gestos violentos sobre la imagen del paisaje elegido, que luego se coloca sobre la misma vista fotográfica intacta. Esta operación sobre el papel fotográfico impreso me permite reflexionar sobre las huellas permanentes e irreversibles de mis acciones, en una poética alusión a nuestra relación con nuestro planeta.
“Topografías de la Fragilidad” no pretende ser una documentación sobre problemas ambientales específicos de los espacios fotografiados, sino más bien una metáfora de la fragilidad de la naturaleza, así como de la fragilidad humana en sí misma, y mi intención es incitar en el espectador un sentido de auto- reflexión, para crear conciencia y hacer mi pequeña contribución, para que los humanos comencemos a pensar en un mundo en armonía con la naturaleza y entendamos que somos parte de una alianza, la naturaleza y los humanos, juntos.- Ingrid Weyland.

Nature, landscape, territory, art, photography… Throughout history these notions have had different and varied, even polemical and controversial, meanings. Landscape would have arisen when man stopped to look at the beauty, the aesthetics of nature. Today it can be said that he tries to find it wherever he can, even in the most hidden corner of any of his own cities.
The territory would have appeared at the moment when man made the decision to order the apparent chaos of nature and to submit the laws of nature to his own laws. Perhaps very soon there will be no more space left for him to order.
Art would have been born the moment man realised that he could imagine and construct a grand narrative of the world, and finally photography would have been the last to replace this grand narrative with small individual narratives, small portions of the world that perhaps allow us to better understand the purpose of our own existence.
Photography today offers us an enormous and wide-ranging scenario of new meanings that we are unable to see clearly, but sometimes we must know how to find those that question ourselves.
The series «Topographies of Fragility» by Ingrid Weyland (1969, Buenos Aires, Argentina) takes us to the very heart of experience to establish new worlds, new universes in which the image definitively allies itself with the indefinable and the untranslatable.
From a purely formal perspective, her images confront us with the question of the visible, but the essence of her approach does not lie there, but in the strict field of meaning, since, essentially, she wants us to understand that the very existence of nature nests in the bosom of our soul, as a phenomenon inherent to the human condition itself.
The individual gaze is, above all, a visual perception of the world. The artist’s gaze is a perception not only of the world but also of its appearances. The question proposed by Ingrid Weyland is not a question of returning to nature in order to recreate or reinterpret it. It is a question of returning to nature in order to rediscover it and – as a consequence – to rediscover ourselves.
«In the series I alter and perform violent gestures on the image of the chosen landscape, which is then placed on the same photographic view intact. This operation on the printed photographic paper allows me to reflect on the permanent and irreversible traces of my actions, in a poetic allusion to our relationship with our planet.
«Topographies of Fragility» is not intended to be a documentation of specific environmental problems of the photographed spaces, but rather a metaphor for the fragility of nature, as well as for human fragility itself, and my intention is to incite in the viewer a sense of self-reflection, to raise awareness and make my small contribution, so that we humans begin to think of a world in harmony with nature and understand that we are part of an alliance, nature and humans, together».- Ingrid Weyland.
