Ira Wind «Portraits»

¡¡ 20 Aniversario ADFPHOTO !!

Through the face one can read the humanity of the human being and the difference that distinguishes one from the other is certainly imposed. At the same time, the movements, the shapes, the textures that cross it, the features that draw it, the feelings that are manifested through it, remind us that the social bond is the matrix on which each person, according to their own experience, forges the uniqueness of their features and expressions.

The face reflects or conceals the intimate while at the same time it is a reflection of the one who looks at it, a replica of each one of us when we contemplate it. We see in others what we want to see of ourselves, in a kind of dance in which we slip between what is and what we want to see, between what we see and what we would like to see. Be that as it may, any face implies the presence of the intimate and the public.

All human beings resemble each other but none are alike, not even twins, although in essence we are all the same.

Life today is a dizzying race to manifest ourselves, to be present, to be seen, to be identified and to be known and to know what we do and where we are, as if we had to conquer a trophy second by second, hence selfies, snapshots, instagrams, facebooks, tiktoks, a whole extraordinary panoply of technological and digital tools that guarantee our presence in the world.

For photography, the portrait meant that we could be identified and that we could all be remembered without the need to belong to any social class; in a certain sense, in its origins it came to signify the possibility of existing.

Ira Wind (Moscow, 1979, lives and works in Belgrade) is a portrait photographer and her portraits combine, in a perfect symbiosis, the intimate and the public aspects of both herself and the sitter. Her images reflect her own concerns, her thoughts, the fictions and fantasies that occur to her in order to, in an almost magical way, integrate the personality, the character, the spirit and the soul of the person portrayed.

Her portraits also captivate us with their beauty, composition, serene colours and light, transporting us – at times – to the real, everyday world, and at others, taking us to an imaginary, invented, fictional and surreal world.

“I have been passionate about photography since childhood. My mother was a photographer and I loved being with her in a dark room with a red lamp, watching the magic of developing film and printing photos. My first SLR camera appeared in 2008. Since then, I have been shooting constantly, looking for new compositional solutions, colors, moods and models. Photography is the art of life and endless learning”.- Ira Wind.
