Se podría decir que los seres humanos estamos hechos casi totalmente de carbono, hidrógeno, oxígeno y nitrógeno y de esta manera podría afirmarse, sin lugar al error, que estamos hechos de materia estelar, del polvo de la explosión y colapso de miles de estrellas hace cientos de millones de años cuando se produjo el Big Bang. De manera más prosaica podría decirse también que estamos hechos de carne y hueso o incluso de cuerpo y alma.
En cualquier caso, sin negar ninguna de las afirmaciones anteriores, siempre he creído que, además, estamos hechos de experiencias, recuerdos, hábitos, interpretaciones, sociedad, educación, cultura, familia y de creencias, factores todos estos que esencialmente condicionan nuestra existencia, nuestras conductas y nuestros comportamientos.
Pero los seres humanos, sobre todo, tendemos a basarnos en nuestras creencias y creer, esencialmente, significa dar por cierto algo sin poseer evidencias de ello, ya que una creencia no es más que, sencillamente, una interpretación que mantenemos como verdadera. No es más que una verdad subjetiva.
La consecuencia de todo esto es que construimos la realidad sobre los cimientos de nuestros intereses, nuestras vivencias, nuestros recuerdos, actitudes, conocimientos propios y opiniones de los demás. En esto se funda el hecho de que cada persona tenga sus propios criterios, sus propios valores, su propia ideología y su particular visión del mundo.
Pero, finalmente, hay algo que no terminamos de entender pues lo cierto es que verdaderamente no nos relacionamos con la realidad sino con la representación mental que hacemos de ella, con la interpretación que hacemos de ella a la luz de todos estos factores que nos condicionan.
Kate Kutsevol (1976, Ucrania) vive inmersa en el descubrimiento de su propia realidad, en la comprensión del universo en el que se constituye la vida misma, absorbiendo todas y cada una de las experiencias que conforman su existencia, tratando que cada una de ellas le revele no sólo la esencia de los demás sino la suya propia.
Sus imágenes nos descubren parte de su vida, fatigas, alegrías, cansancio, deseos, enamoramientos, estudios, trabajo, ansiedades, conversaciones, tristezas, sueños, pérdidas, sufrimiento, vigilias, sentimientos, planes…
Pero apenas que nos fijemos con cierto detenimiento en sus fotografías estaremos en condiciones de percibir que no solamente se refieren a su realidad sino que nos desvelan la nuestra propia, aquella que se esconde tras la negación a creer que somos nosotros mismos quienes podemos cambiarla para así poder cambiar, también, el mundo y de esta manera establecer entonces una relación en armonía entre todos y cada uno de nosotros.
Desde que cogí la cámara por primera vez, me di cuenta de que la fotografía contemporánea no tiene que ver con una cámara de calidad, ni con la velocidad de obturación o la apertura, ni con objetivos caros… Ni siquiera con una sección u hora áureas … Para mí, la fotografía es comprensión, experiencia, descubrimiento. Es el reflejo del Universo en fotografías y la revelación de uno mismo no sólo al mundo entero, sino a uno mismo.- Kate Kutsevol.

It could be said that human beings are made almost entirely of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen and so it could be safely asserted that we are made of stellar matter, the dust from the explosion and collapse of thousands of stars hundreds of millions of years ago when the Big Bang occurred. More prosaically, it could also be said that we are made of flesh and blood or even body and soul.
In any case, without denying any of the above statements, I have always believed that we are also made of experiences, memories, habits, interpretations, society, education, culture, family and beliefs, all factors that essentially condition our existence, our conduct and our behaviour.
But human beings, above all, tend to base ourselves on our beliefs, and belief essentially means taking something for granted without evidence, since a belief is simply an interpretation that we hold to be true. It is nothing more than a subjective truth.
The consequence of all this is that we build reality on the foundations of our interests, our experiences, our memories, our attitudes, our own knowledge and the opinions of others. This is the basis for the fact that each person has his own criteria, his own values, his own ideology and his own particular view of the world.
But, finally, there is something that we do not quite understand, for the truth is that we do not really relate to reality but to the mental representation we make of it, to the interpretation we make of it in the light of all these factors that condition us.
Kate Kutsevol (1976, Ukraine) lives immersed in the discovery of her own reality, in the understanding of the universe in which life itself is constituted, absorbing each and every one of the experiences that make up her existence, she tries to make each one of them reveal to her not only the essence of others but also her own.
Her images reveal part of her life, fatigues, joys, tiredness, desires, falling in love, studies, work, anxieties, conversations, sadness, dreams, losses, suffering, vigils, feelings, plans…
But as soon as we take a closer look at her photographs we will be able to perceive that they not only refer to her reality but also reveal our own, the one that hides behind the refusal to believe that we ourselves can change it so that we can also change the world and in this way establish a harmonious relationship between each and every one of us.
