¡¡ 20 Aniversario ADFPHOTO !!
Sean felices.

For some, perhaps fortunate ones, summer is a time of rest, recovery, and vacation. For others, it is often a time of reflection, analysis, and review of the goals and objectives set for the current year.
Sometimes this time of rest or reflection also serves to try to find the answers to the questions we ask ourselves throughout life, which the hectic pace of life imposes on us prevents us from uncovering.
As you can see from the entries in my posts, 2025 marks 20 years dedicated to the publication and dissemination of photography on this website. During all this time, and a few more years dedicated to it, the status of photography has evolved from classic and traditional positions as a mere instrument for reproducing reality, to being considered an art form, to reaching our days as an omnipresent and accessible medium driven by digital technology and the ubiquity of mobile phones.
In a world, unfortunately, increasingly dominated by hatred, lies, hoaxes, fake news, the influence of large corporations and big capital, as well as the alienating messages of radical and extreme political communication and information, photography has long ceased to be the representative of truth, and is even less capable of fulfilling its role as the memory of the human being, especially now that everything from image to history can be constructed through AI.
If truth and memory constituted the central core of photography’s status and the reasons for its intellectual and cultural essence, photography is now subject to the status of information because, as J. Fontcuberta said, we need to make «an effort to verify the information we receive, try to analyze it critically, understand the sources of its transmission and the interests that may underlie them.»
With truth and history dead, what is the intrinsic nature of photography today? What function can we attribute to it? What is its role in today’s society?
As for me, I have always believed in the semantic capabilities of photography, in its capacity for narration, storytelling, metaphor, and fiction. I have always defended its capacity for constructing new realities that exist between waking and dreaming, between reality and fiction, between the verifiable and the imaginary, between silence and noise. Perhaps the only way we can better understand today’s society and humanity.
It is true that today, photography is a language that everyone speaks thanks to technology, but my feeling and belief is that it is also a language that only a few people can write. In this sense, photography today must be an instrument of culture, a means of spreading freedom, equality, and harmony among human beings and between them and nature. A critical medium against anything that threatens the innate values of the authentic essence of humanity, and a medium that allows us to interpret reality with which to build a better world and a better life for all human beings. That’s what culture is all about, in essence.
We’ll meet again in September with an exhibition by Liz Huston (Los Angeles, USA).
Be happy.
