Para alguno de nosotros el mes de agosto es un tiempo de descanso, de vacaciones, de estar con la familia y, sobre todo, de mucho calor. Cuando este momento llega no puedo evitar las contradicciones anímicas que me asaltan al saber que muchísimas personas en el mundo no disponen de este tiempo, que millones de ellas están siendo sometidas por la violencia de la guerra, la crueldad de organizaciones criminales, la pobreza, el hambre, la injusticia o la discriminación.
Siempre se cuestiona uno mismo que es lo que puede hacer para paliar todas estas desgracias y para contribuir a mejorar las cosas y fácilmente se puede llegar a pensar que ante el tamaño y dimensión de todos estos problemas no puede hacerse nada. Tal vez en esta forma de pensar radique la inmovilidad y la desesperanza para poder cambiar muchas de estas situaciones. No obstante debemos ser conscientes que cada pequeña acción, cada mínimo gesto para cambiar el estado de las cosas es un nuevo avance y una nueva oportunidad para acabar con todas estas lacras.
Mi consuelo y mi pequeño gesto consiste en mostrar la obra fotográfica de maravillosas mujeres y hombres que dedican su vida a tratar de emocionarnos, a hacernos felices, a hacernos pensar, a hacernos reflexionar o simplemente a permitirnos disfrutar de la magia de sus creaciones.
Ya sé que se trata de un simple y acaso diminuto gesto, pero para mi es un paso más en la toma de consciencia que nos permita hacer un mundo mejor, que nos posibilite el construir un futuro conveniente para nuestras familias y que nos garantice una convivencia armónica y solidaria entre los seres humanos en el máximo respeto y defensa de este planeta que es nuestro hogar.
Diga lo que se diga y se piense lo que se piense, el arte tiene la capacidad de sensibilizarnos, de emocionarnos y la cultura tiene la virtud de hacernos aprender, meditar y reflexionar. Rechazar la posibilidad que uno y otra tienen para mejorar nuestra vida no es más que compartir la ceguera con quienes no quieren que las cosas cambien. Dejar de soñar es como admitir que no se puede cambiar el destino. Así que soñemos.

For some of us, August is a time of rest, of holidays, of being with the family and, above all, of great warmth. When this time comes, I cannot avoid the contradictions that assail me when I realise that so many people in the world do not have this time, that millions of them are being subjected to the violence of war, the cruelty of criminal organisations, poverty, hunger, injustice and discrimination.
One always asks oneself what one can do to alleviate all these misfortunes and to contribute to making things better, and one can easily come to think that in the face of the size and dimension of all these problems, nothing can be done. Perhaps in this way of thinking lies the immobility and hopelessness of being able to change many of these situations. However, we must be aware that every small action, every small gesture to change the state of things is a new step forward and a new opportunity to put an end to all these scourges.
My consolation and my small gesture consists of showing the photographic work of wonderful women and men who dedicate their lives to trying to move us, to make us happy, to make us think, to make us reflect or simply to allow us to enjoy the magic of their creations.
I know that it is a simple and perhaps tiny gesture, but for me it is one more step in the awareness that allows us to make a better world, that enables us to build a convenient future for our families and that guarantees a harmonious and supportive coexistence between human beings in the utmost respect and defence of this planet that is our home.
Whatever is said and whatever is thought, art has the capacity to sensitise us, to move us, and culture has the virtue of making us learn, meditate and reflect. Rejecting the possibility that one or the other has to improve our lives is nothing more than sharing the blindness of those who do not want things to change. To stop dreaming is like admitting that we cannot change our destiny. So let us dream.
